Both teams turned up three short but replacements were quickly found. Bede's were a junior team who also played on occasion at Sunderland's Fulwell ground (as well as at Carley Hill), and had very close links to Sunderland. As can be seen from their line-up many of their players either had played for, or would subsequently play for, Sunderland.
